We specifically highlight interphobia when we talk about IDAHOBIT (the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia, and Transphobia on May 17) in recognition that trans and intersex people experience discrimination for having bodies and experiences that do not conform to socially constructed sex and gender binaries.

For example, gender-affirming care bans in US states carve out exemptions in their bills for Intersex Genital Mutilation (IGM). American anti-trans legislation forces intersex and trans children into binaries that harm them through both the imposition and denial of healthcare.

We reiterate the call from intersex advocates to end IGM in Canada.
